Africa’s Challenges: The 2015 African Higher Education Summit

Commissioned by TrustAfrica in partnership with a number of other groups, the Summit called for dramatic increases in investment across a comprehensive spectrum of higher education areas, including research spending, African scholars outside of Africa, and more coordinated planning across regions and programs. The ultimate goal?Africa’s Challenges: The 2015 African Higher Education Summit

To increase participation rates to 50 percent by 2063 — a match for projected global participation rates. And while dramatic growth is already underway, the challenges are mighty thanks to an already strained infrastructure and lack of funding.

While the event was just three days long, it was the culmination of significant research, planning and dialog aimed at reimagining higher education in Africa. While the plan’s success is anything but a certainty, the Summit itself represented a significant shift toward an unprecedented shared vision.
